Here we are talking about an entity as big as it gets with the power to move literal mountains (of mail and commerce) who have something somewhat rare and powerfully valuable in their stable: "A Monopoly on Yours and My United States Mailbox"! and there's more, the postal people also have something somewhat unique called "Brand AND Trust Loyalty!
Like many and most, leaders and then followers will rest on and after their successes stagnating the enterprise into a crash-landing pattern (I've done it myself) spiraling down from high elevations. Headed 1st towards spiraling inflation, then down-sizing, then a hostile take-over from a vulture or raptor-like competitor. And these are competitors who are not even allowed to compete on the same level playing field. Do you realize the extended efficiency achievable if a lead parcel service could simply drop-&-dash at a mailbox without chasing down driveways, etc? That is only one issue.
